First steps

Getting started

  1. 1

    Install or load ScamShield

    Add ScamShield to a supported Chromium-based browser.

  2. 2

    Open Marketplace

    Navigate to Facebook Marketplace and open a supported buyer conversation.

  3. 3

    Open ScamShield

    Open the extension and confirm that its live protection or status is available.

  4. 4

    Review the assessment

    Consider Scam Risk and Bot Likelihood, along with confidence and reasons, before responding.

Common fixes

Basic troubleshooting

ScamShield does not detect Marketplace

Refresh the Facebook page, reopen the conversation, confirm ScamShield is enabled, and reopen the extension popup.

Protection is limited or unavailable

Changes to Facebook or Messenger interfaces may temporarily affect detection in supported contexts. Refresh the page and try again later if the issue continues.

The extension popup does not respond

Reload the page, restart the browser, or disable and re-enable the extension if appropriate.

A result overlay remains visible

Temporary result overlays can be manually dismissed and are also designed to auto-dismiss.
